BANGS Bangs are back! After a turbulent couple of years involving broken wrists, different drummers and overseas tours (New Zealand, Australia, and the UK) they are packing up the van (that is, if they find one to buy in the next two weeks) and hitting the road to debut the much awaited new songs from their upcoming EP, "Call and Response". Look for a trail across the US this summer of busted strings, broken hearts, and bathroom graffiti: bangs were here! It's no secret that Bangs have had their share of drummer trouble in the past. Introducing Peter David Connelly, a.k.a. "the Brian Wilson of Olympia"! His straightforward whiz kid drumming, combined with Maggie Vail's rock solid bass and Sarah Utter's ferocious guitar riffs, is the icing on the new Bangs cake. The 7 songs recorded in May at MagRecOne (a cold farmhouse on the outskirts of Olympia) by resident genius Justin Trosper (Unwound, Replikants) show Bangs moving in a direction that has always been their destiny: pure rock and roll action and punk energy! The lyrics of "Call and Response" mention, among other things: scars, miniskirts, shadows, dirty knives, consumer excess, boredom, cheating hearts, and getting called out by gross dudes when you're just trying to walk down the street to your stupid job at a discotheque - oh yeah, and a rainbow. Sarah and Maggie share vocal duties but don't get it confused: Bangs are not a "girl band" or a "power pop punk band" or a "punky girl power band" - they are two girls and a boy playing rock songs as loud as they can, packing out basement shows and writing music while you were watching TV.
