Is Ladyfest London for women only?

Absolutely not. Ladyfest London is designed to celebrate and promote the achievements of women, yes, but it is not designed to exclude or denigrate men - we want to show off the skills of the performers to absolutely everyone! The festival is therefore open to all. In fact, some of the organisers are men, and many of the bands/groups involved include both men and women.

The only exception to this is that a few of the tuition workshops will be women-only, as the organisers felt that there was a possibility that women might feel less intimidated about learning an instrument when in a single-sex environment.

Where is the money going?

Most of the money is going to fund the festival itself - in particular, paying for the travel expenses of performers who are coming from overseas. However, previous Ladyfests have made a profit despite this, and in the event of there being a profit, the proceeds will be given to charity. The charities in question have not yet been chosen, so if you wish to nominate one, please email info@ladyfestlondon.org.

Can I play/perform/exhibit at Ladyfest London?

Potentially, yes, although some events are already planned so there may be limited space/time. See the Contacts page to find out who to contact about your particular skill.

Can I sell my fanzine/merchandise at Ladyfest London?

We want as wide a variety of zines as possible to be available for sale at Ladyfest, so yes! If you have a zine, email zines@ladyfestlondon.org and we'll sort you out. If you're selling other merchandise, you're probably better off emailing info@ladyfestlondon.org.

Why aren't Sleater-Kinney/Le Tigre/my favourite band playing?

Almost certainly because they had other commitments and couldn't make it. We did ask a lot of bands and artists whether they wanted to play, including all of the "big name" riot grrl bands, so if they're not playing, it's not our fault!

Is Ladyfest London a Mean Fiddler/Ticketmaster event?

No. Ladyfest London is all volunteer-organised and not-for-profit. The Mean Fiddler connection comes because we're using The Garage, which is a Mean Fiddler venue, for many of the events, and so it's easiest for us to let them sort out the actual selling of tickets. This means that tickets are sold through all of the outlets that Mean Fiddler normally deal with, such as Ticketmaster.

I don't have a credit card - how can I get a ticket?

If you live in London, you can get them direct from either the London Astoria box office or the Camden Ticket Shop. Otherwise, a limited number of tickets are available by mail order direct from the Ladyfest London organisers - email info@ladyfestlondon.org for more information.

I only want to go to a particular event/band - do I still have to pay for a day pass?

The only tickets that will be sold in advance are the day and 4-day passes. It will be possible to buy tickets for some events "on the door", although pass-holders will have priority entry. "On the door" tickets will be available for the evening gigs at The Garage, "Born in Flames" at the Rio Cinema and "Like a Virgin" at the Hen & Chicken Theatre.
