Kiki and Herb
Kiki is a boozed-up, washed up 66-ish female lounge singer with a maniacal energy and a pained smile. Herb is a talented pianist and singer who provides musical underscoring to all of Kiki's rants and raves. Together they are New York's legendary drag cabaret act Kiki and Herb.

The Kitsch Kittens
An affectionate 'tribute' to the girls of the 50s and 60s. Sindy and Barbie take you back to a time when hair was big, cars were big, but nothing was bigger than the sound of the girl groups!

Kaito
Formed in 1996 in Norwich, they have had thirteen releases to date in Europe and the US including four singles and their debut album 'You've Seen Us... You Must Have Seen Us' (Fierce Panda). The band's riotous live shows have seen them steadily gaining a huge underground fan base, as well as comparisons to bands such as Sonic Youth, Clinic, Huggy Bear and Elastica. The group's boy/girl dynamic makes them stand apart from the testosterone fuelled rock bands that abound at present, offering a unique alternative take on the present scene.

Angelica
The world of Angelica is a dark, brooding state of sinister harmonies and medieval allusions. Here angry tales of disillusion and vengeance inhabit increasingly complex and intricate rock vignettes. Their recently released album 'The Seven Year Itch' showcases their ever-increasing accomplishment and excellence. Recorded in seven days with Kat Bjelland at the helm it sees the band leave behind the kittens and teenage girl crushes of their early years to embark on far rougher, more rewarding territory. Angelica never leave the house without their sense of humour, an old copy of Take a Break and a Steve Irwin video.

Holly Golightly
Moody classic, bluesy garage by former member of the now defunct cult band Thee Headcoatees. Although recently supporting the White Stripes at the Astoria, London (and recording material with them at the venerable Toe Rag studios), this is a rare opportunity to see this awesome lady on this side of the Atlantic, as she now resides in San Francisco. Holly Golightly have had a plethora of releases on many labels including damaged goods, Vinyl Japan, Sympathy for The Record Industry, Hangman's Daughter and Kill Rock Stars, the most recent of which is her 'Singles Roundup', on Damaged Goods in the UK and Sympathy For The Record Industry in the US.

Maggie Fortune
Her writing stirs girls and girls and girls and boys up into one huge cake mix that comes out of the oven all wrong. Maggie lives and works in E1 and runs a spoken word night there too. As well as stories and poems, she also writes plays.

Spy 51
Spy 51's current line up came together when guitarist Charley Stone quit Gay Dad and was enticed into the Spy 51 fold by bassist/vocalist Lea's jazz collection and drummer Toby's vast range of facial expressions. She then refused to leave. Fair play to her. Since then the band have gigged hard, perfecting their sarky-melodic sound and their Duran Duran covers by supporting Bratmobile in London and playing two (count 'em) Ladyfest benefits. In earlier incarnations the band released three singles on Fierce Panda which promptly fell into obscurity (but which may still be available from the label).

The Hissyfits
Having come together through NYC's Village Voice in 1996, The Hissyfits have endured and matured, gaining a loyal US following by steadfastly rocking out to their mix of sweet harmonies floating over raucous guitars and drums. Virtually no obstacle can stand in the way of The Hissyfits' mission to rock: last summer they toured the entire periphery of the United States crammed in a two-door Ford Aerostar with no room to store their bass amp. They forged ahead anyway, playing with bands who were willing to share their bass rigs with them. Check 'em out for a hiss and a kiss.

Hello Cuca
Underground rockin' combo from Murcia in the south-east of Spain. They write songs with wicked rhythms and the chili you get from walking barefoot by the hot sand at the beach. Hello Cuca are Lidia Damunt (vox, guitar), Mabel Damunt (bass) and Alfonso Melero (drums). They've been together since 1997 and have released three 7"s on their own label Rompepistas ("floorshakers"), as well as other songs on different compilations. Their new record "Triple Dinamita" presents three songs to introduce the Murcia beat. A classic flavour - like vanilla & chocolate ice cream but now with a surprising extra ingredient.

Radical Northern Cheerleaders
The first British radical cheerleadering squad inspired by the American girls and boys. They perform radical cheers shouting about feminism, anti capitalism, the beauty myth, gender roles, and queer politics.

Pam Savage (Ladyfest/LektroLAB)
